Susan Chastain is a native Floridian who joined “Swing Shift” last September. She brings with her a remarkable and storied career as both a big band vocalist and a small combo chanteuse. Susan began her career with what is arguably the finest big band in the mid-west under the leadership of world renowned bassist, Paul Keller. The band, which hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan, has played all over the United States and also did several tours of Europe. It featured Susan as lead vocalist for two decades before she departed the chilly north for the more hospitable climate of Southwestern Florida. Under Keller’s tutelage, Susan developed an incredibly deep book of some 450 songs. Her at-ease, laid back stage presence is a skill which was honed razor sharp by nightly appearances at “The Fire Fly”, a terrific jazz club in Ann Arbor which she owned and operated for nearly a decade. ...
