The AJCC's first classic jazz series, simply called “Colors of Jazz” was presented in the spring of this year as a collaboration with musician Karen Gordon, whose goal was to “<I>carve out a space where musicians can perform for a genuinely appreciative, listening audience - where music is the focus</I>.” For the spring series, Gordon presented a diverse slate of local performers from the Aiken and Augusta areas.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join forces with the Augusta Jewish Community Center and to revisit the ‘Colors’ model. The spring concert series paved the way for a rewarding partnership with a wonderful community-minded organization, resulting in a new jazz venue in Columbia County. Ideally, other artists, organization leaders and business owners will follow suit and develop similar relationships,” said Gordon.

Though Gordon cast a wider net for the fall series, calling on artists from Atlanta and New York, the local connection is still evident. Both Kemba Cofield and Michael Dease are on the roster of Bluesback Records, the record company owned by Wycliffe Gordon, and Dease is a graduate of Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, GA.

A portion of proceeds will be used for programming designed to expose children to jazz music, history and culture.

All concerts start at 7:30pm.
