"NeWt are the 2012 Scottish Jazz Awards Ensemble of the year. After a successful UK tour, gigs at Ronnie Scott's in London and supporting Bill Frisell at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2011, the band performed at the Toronto, Vancouver and Rochester International Jazz Festivals in 2012. Also in the summer of 2012 they travelled to the UK's northernmost point: the island of Unst in Shetland. There they composed a suite of music specifically inspired by their surroundings. Their rehearsal and writing process was meticulously documented by the Inner Ear media team and was streamed live on the web. NeWt debuted this suite at the inaugural Shetland Jazz Festival at the end of that week in Lerwick. Their performance was recorded and also live streamed. This is mainland Scotland's live debut of the NeWt North Suite. The evening will include a screening of the making of NeWt North short film, followed by the performance of the hour long suite, and some other classic NeWt material!
