Jazz vocalist Angela Bingham “Phrases conversationally, as if the two of you were speaking directly over cocktails or supper.” (David R. Halliday, jazz critic) Angela Bingham is a simply captivating, real-deal jazz singer and entertainer, and her fans are mesmerized by the way she engages the audience, while she holds and keeps you in the palm of her hand - whether she is swinging hard and improvising through a jazz standard, delivering a heart-tugging ballad, or cracking a joke in between songs. Jazz vocals in an upscale setting at Greensboro’s favorite venue for jazz. Jazz vocalist Angela Bingham “Phrases conversationally, as if the two of you were speaking directly over cocktails or supper.” (David R. Bingham’s world class trio features monster pianist and master accompanist Ed Paolantonio - who has been described as an “all consuming musician..(whose) solo struck sparks around the room.” (Owen Cardle, News and Observer, Raleigh, NC) A true virtuoso, Paolantonio has been composing, arranging and performing jazz professionally since 1971 and has accompanied many jazz giants including Dizzy Gillespie, Slide Hampton, Clark Terry, Lee Konitz, Curtis Fuller, Jimmy Heath, Emily Remler as well as touring with drummer Max Roach.
Internationally-known guitarist Scott Sawyer “displays his musical diversity like a badge of honor, revisiting his blues & rock roots while continuing to explore the jazz tradition & beyond” (Philip Van Vleck) Sawyer has performed at major festivals, concert halls, and beer-soaked dives here and abroad (Asia, Brazil, Canada, Central America, Europe, and the Middle East) including Monterey Jazz Festival (CA), Herbst Jazz Festival (Austria), St. Lucia Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz, 2002 Silde Jazz (Norway); Ottawa Jazz Festival; Detroit Jazz Festival, Berlin Chamber Music Hall (Germany); the Blue Note (NYC); Joe’s Pub (NYC); Catalina Jazz Club (LA), to name a few. He has been featured on many Grammy-nominated albums, and continues to push the limits of the jazz genre with his inventive guitar work.
Holding down the low end is Charlotte’s own legendary bassist and composer Ron Brendle, who has been described as “One of the most inventive and creative bass players I've ever encountered. When he came in to play on a film score I composed I didn't write out a part for him. I knew everything he would come up with would be highly original yet still fit the score perfectly. Rock solid." (William Goodrum, Film Composer) Brendle has had a varied and prolific career, and has shared the stage with Mose Allison, Charlie Byrd, Dizzy Gillespie, Hank Crawford, Ray Charles, Sheila Jordan, George Hamilton V, Bucky Pizzarelli, Frank Kimbrough, Maria Howell and Dom Flemmons.
Be ready for an evening of swinging, creative, bright, surprising and engaging music, while this while this world class quartet explores and soars through jazz standards from the American songbook and beyond.
