Composer, Keyboardist and Educator Alan Jay Palmer studied with Jackie McLean, Jaki Byard, John Malachi, Walter Davis Jr. and Hotep Galeta. Upon graduating from the Hartt School of Music, he joined Jackie McLean’s band in the ’90s, recording on his albums Rhythm of the Earth and Fire & Love.

Alan became Jackie McLean’s principal pianist and assistant professor of music and history at the University of Hartford as well as The Artists Collective for well over a decade. He went on to join Roy Hargrove’s Quintet, was music director for Common, and has performed with some of the greatest artists of our time including Bobby Hutcherson, Gary Bartz, Billy Higgins, Frank Foster, Slide Hampton, Reggie Workman, Amiri Baraka, Frank Morgan, Rene McLean, Grachan Moncur and Charles Tolliver to name only a few. ...
