Duke Ellington’s “jazz Nutcracker,” With The New England Jazz Ensemble And The Farmington Dance And Center For The Arts at Canton High School

A rare performance of the original big-band adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s Suite from the Nutcracker Ballet, also known as “the jazz Nutcracker,” by Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington. This is the first time in several years that the piece will be performed locally with a ballet company. Re-imagined for jazz orchestra, the score and choreography include all the pageantry of the original, but with the added excitement of one of the finest big bands in the area. Other seasonal music rounds-out this holiday program.
