We welcome Harold back to the Side Door for his second appearance! Harold Lopez-Nussa was born in Havana, Cuba, on July 13, 1983. At the age of eight he began piano studies at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory. In 1995, Harold went on to study at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory before graduating with a specialty in Classical Piano from the Higher Institute of Arts (ISA).

As a young emerging artist, Harold has performed at Cuba’s most important theatres and also as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Matanzas Symphony Orchestra. He has played with outstanding figures of Cuban traditional music and popular music, as well as known jazz musicians such as Chucho Valdés, David Sánchez, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, Christian Scott, Stefon Harris, Bobby Carcassés, Elmer Ferrer, and Alexander Brown. He toured internationally with Omara Portuondo during 2008-2011 and also as a member of Maraca & The Monterey Latin Jazz All-Stars....

Major festival appearances include the Wien Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Oslo World Music Festival, Barcelona Jazz International Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Martinique Jazz Festival, Verona Jazz Festival, the 33rd Conference of International Association for Jazz Educators (IAJE), Enghien Les Bains 1st Piano Festival, OLoron Jazz Festival, Jazz a Viennes, and the Puebla International Festival, among others.
