John Stowell and Kendra Shank at Northampton Jazz Workshop Series at The Loft At The Clarion Hotel

This coming Tuesday on June 3rd we are excited to have as our guests artist, guitarist John Stowell from Portland OR., and vocalist Kendra Shank from NYC. They are in the middle of a national tour as a duo promoting their new CD, New York Conversations. We were lucky enough to snag them for a day to play with us so I hope you can join us for what should be something very different and exciting. Not that I'm lazy, but here is a long string of accolades from the press that seems to tell the story just fine.

"Kendra Shank, acclaimed for her "delectable voice" (Time) and "breathtakingly original concept" (Boston Globe) joins master guitarist John Stowell who "seems to pull arching motifs out of thin air, eschewing clichés" (All About Jazz), in this co-led project. The interactive duo pushes boundaries with a personal mix of originals, re-imagined jazz standards, a Fred Hersch/Norma Winstone song, a folk song medley, and improvised pieces. Moods range from intimate tender ballads to mixed meter jaunts, syncopated swing, sensuous samba, and the evocatively experimental. Stowell plays pianistic chords and rich unexpected harmonies on acolorful array of guitars: electric, steel string acoustic, nylon acoustic, and fretless. In addition to her compelling interpretations of lyrics, Shank employs electronic looping and effects to improvise multi-layered wordless collages in organic interplay with Stowell."...
