Trumpeter Ricky Alfonso has been a mainstay on the East Coast jazz scene since the early 1970s. A product of the modern jazz movement with a unique trumpet style steeped in the blues with plenty of swing.

Ricky has worked with many area jazz luminaries including Mario Pavone, Michael Mussillami, Bill Lowe, Ed Blackwell, Joe Fonda, Nat Reeves, Tom Chapin, Andy Jaffee, David Liebman and the late Bill Barron. Ricky also recorded and toured with R/B great Joe Cocker leading the horn section in Cocker’s return to prominence following the great Woodstock Festival of 1969. Ricky’s CD Hold Back Tomorrow features original compositions with a tip of the hat to Mr Barron and Charles Mingus. Featuring a fine rhythm section and the work of saxophonist George Solvack, this blues based CD brings out best of Tom McClung on piano, currently living and working in Paris and is a long time member of tenor saxophone legend Archie Shepp’s band and drummer Pete Perfido, a Chet Baker alumni.

Performing modern jazz standards and original compositions, his music carries on the tradition of high quality swing and modern jazz improvisation. Looking forward to future performing and recording projects, Ricky can be found performing in the Hartford area at many of the best jazz venues.
