On November 14, 2010 at 7 p.m., under the direction of Joel LaRue Smith and Nando Michelin, the first two ensembles perform in a concert entitled “Bring in Da Funk!”. On November 14, 2010 at 7 p.m., under the direction of Joel LaRue Smith and Nando Michelin, the first two ensembles perform in a concert entitled “Bring in Da Funk!”. On November 18, 2010 at 8 p.m., the second two ensembles perform under the direction of Scott Aruda and Paul Ahlstrand. Program to be announced.
On November 21, 2010 at 7 p.m., the final two ensembles round out the week of concerts, under the direction of Nando Michelin and Tufts student John Mason. Michelin’s ensemble will feature works by Benny Golson, Hermeto Pascoal, Don Redman and Andy Razaf, and K. Garrett.
On Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 8 pm, the Tufts Jazz Orchestra will perform their concert entitled "Strike up the Band - Be mesmerized, be surprised, be there!" Join them as they pay tribute to music from the Great American Songbook; Earth, Wind, and Fire; Isaac Hayes, and Stevie Wonder. The orchestra will feature music based on songs that have been featured on film, stage, television, and the radio. Come be enchanted by familiar melodies set to contemporary cutting edge arrangements infused with hypnotic pulsating rhythms and lush jazz harmonies. The performance will take place in Goddard Chapel and it is free and open to the public.
Besides the Tufts Jazz Orchestra concert, each performance will take place in the Fisher Performance Room of the Granoff Music Center at Tufts University, located at 20 Talbot Avenue on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus.
