Lenni-Kalle Taipale is one of Finland’s most recognized rhythm music artists. He has led his own jazz trio since the 1990s and has had a prolific career as both composer and performer. Taipale is also known from several popular Finnish TV shows, including The Voice of Finland, Elämäni biisi, and Bumtsibum.
Eero Saunamäki is an internationally acclaimed recorder player who has performed as a soloist with dozens of symphony orchestras and premiered over 40 works. In addition to playing the recorder, he performs regularly as a saxophonist and singer and teaches at the Sibelius Academy. Many recognize him from Finland’s Independence Day gala broadcasts, where he leads the Kaartin Combo.
Espoo Big Band has been a pioneering force in Finnish jazz for over 40 years and is the resident orchestra of the April Jazz Festival. EBB is known for its distinctive sound, its commitment to supporting Finnish composers, and its collaborations with top domestic and international soloists. The band has performed at festivals as far afield as Australia, Cuba, and the United States.

Espoo Big Band (EBB) esiintyy Sellosalissa energisellä ja yllätyksellisellä konserttiohjelmalla, joka tuo lavalle kaksi ainutlaatuista solistia ja kaksi hienoa sävellystä Marzi Nymanilta. Molemmat teokset Marzi on kirjoittanut erityisen hyvin tuntemalleen EBB:lle, jonka kapellimestarina hän on toiminut vuodesta 2012 lähtien.
Illan toisella puoliskolla kuullaan Marzi Nymanin hyvälle ystävälleen Lenni-Kalle Taipaleelle säveltämä teos Portrait of a Friend, joka kantaesitettiin vuonna 2013 PianoEspoo-festivaalilla. Kuusiosainen, lähes tunnin mittainen teos hurmasi tuolloin niin yleisön kuin kriitikotkin. Helsingin Sanomien mukaan esitys oli iloitteleva, lennokas ja mukaansatempaava – täynnä pelimannihenkeä ja yllättäviä käänteitä. Nyt tämä riemukas sävellys kuullaan viimein uudelleen.
Konsertti alkaa Nymanin uunituoreella teoksella, jossa solistina loistaa nokkahuilisti Eero Saunamäki. Harvinaislaatuinen konsertto nokkahuilulle ja big bandille on sävelletty tätä iltaa varten ja ammentaa inspiraationsa Eeron monipuolisesta muusikkoudesta. Konsertissa tämä multi-instrumentalisti pääsee esittelemään laajaa soitinarsenaaliaan.
Sellosalissa kuultava ohjelma tarjoaa yleisölle sekä suurta draamaa että herkkyyttä, sävellyksellistä kekseliäisyyttä ja ainutlaatuisen persoonallisia muusikoita. Luvassa on taatusti mieleenpainuva ilta!
Lenni-Kalle Taipale on yksi suomalaisen rytmimusiikin tunnetuimmista muusikoista. Hän on johtanut nimeään kantavaa jazz-trioa jo 1990-luvulta lähtien ja tehnyt laajasti uraa sekä säveltäjänä että esiintyjänä. Hänet tunnetaan myös monista televisio-ohjelmista, kuten The Voice of Finland, Elämäni biisi ja Bumtsibum.
Eero Saunamäki on kansainvälisesti arvostettu nokkahuilisti, joka on esiintynyt kymmenien sinfoniaorkestereiden solistina ja kantaesittänyt yli 40 teosta. Hänen laaja soitinarsenaalinsa ulottuu kontrabassonokkahuilusta sopraninonokkahuiluun ja saksofoneihin. Hän esiintyy aktiivisesti erilaisissa kokoonpanoissa myös laulajana sekä toimii opettajana Sibelius-Akatemiassa. Moni tunnistaa Eeron Linnan juhlien tv-lähetyksistä Kaartin Combon johtajana.
Espoo Big Band on yli 40 vuotta toiminut suomalaisen jazzin suunnannäyttäjä ja April Jazz -festivaalin isäntäorkesteri. EBB tunnetaan omaleimaisesta soundistaan, kotimaisen sävellystyön tukemisesta ja korkeatasoisista koti- ja ulkomaisista solisteista, joiden kanssa orkesteri on konsertoinut festivaaleilla aina Australiaa, Kuubaa ja Yhdysvaltoja myöten.
