Finnish jazz will be at the forefront of Metropolia Big Band's spring opening concert. The evening's programme focuses on compositions written for the Esko Linnavalli Big Band competition over the years.

In 2026, it will be 100 years since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland with the ship Andania. The year thus marks a historic centenary celebration for Finnish jazz: Jazz in Finland 100. The anniversary highlights Finnish jazz and its artists both in Finland and abroad, celebrating jazz as part of Finland’s cultural heritage. Metropolia Big Bandin kevätkauden avauskonsertissa soi kotimainen jazz. Ohjelmiston pääpaino on Esko Linnavalli -big band -sävellyskilpailussa vuosien varrella menestyneissä sävellyksissä, joiden rinnalla kuullaan jo klassikon aseman saavuttaneita teoksia. Konsertin säveltäjiä ovat muun muassa nuoremman polven tekijät Pessi Levanto, Mikko Hassinen, Veli-Matti Halkosalmi ja Teemu Halmkrona sekä kotimaisen jazzin uranuurtajat Eero Koivistoinen ja Jukka Linkola.
Metropolia Big Bandia johtaa Antti Rissanen.
Konsertti on osa Jazz Suomi 100 -juhlavuoden sekä Euroopan musiikkikorkeakoulujen yhdistyksen AEC Pop and Jazz Platform -ammattilaistapahtuman ohjelmaa.

Vuonna 2026 tulee kuluneeksi 100 vuotta siitä, kun jazz symbolisesti rantautui Andania-laivan mukana Suomeen. Vuosi on siten historiallinen kotimaisen jazzin juhlavuosi: Jazz Suomi 100 -juhlavuosi. Juhlavuosi nostaa esiin kotimaista jazzia ja sen tekijöitä niin Suomessa kuin ulkomailla, ja juhlii jazzia osana suomalaista kulttuuriperintöä. Jazz Suomi 100 -kampanjaa koordinoi Suomen Jazzliitto.
