Selim Rantapuro is a Finnish jazz guitarist who started playing as a freelance musician in many different groups that played all sorts of music. However, his passion for jazz led him to study in The Royal Conservatoires in The Hague in The Netherlands and in Antwerp, Belgium. In the latter institution he obtained his master's degree in jazz. His playing style is a mix of traditional jazz language but he also is searching modern ways of expressing himself. He eagerly composes his own music that is influenced by today's jazz but that also has some hardbop and postbop influences, including jazz artists such as Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter just to name a few....

Shades Of Blue on Selim Rantapuron ensimmäinen albumi, jonka kappaleet ovat kaikki hänen käsialaa. Tyylillisesti kappaleet ovat jazzia, erityisesti 1960-luvun hardbop ja post bop-vaikutteet kuuluvat läpi albumista joiden tyylien edustajia olivat muun muassa pianisti Horace Silver, Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock ja Miles Davisin The Second Quintet. Kappaleiden aiheita ovat erilaiset assosiaatiot mielikuvista, ja kappaleiden nimet pyrkivät kuvaamaan mahdollisimman tarkasti aiheita eri mielikuvista, joita kukin kappale edustaa omalla sävelkielellään ja tempollaan. Kappaleet ovat vaihtelevia, välillä nopeita ja svengaavia tai haikeita balladeja tai jotain siltä väliltä.
