Driven by the need to challenge himself as a composer, Vespera Quartet was formed by Martti Vesala in 2022. He started out by setting three restrictions: first of all, the instrumentation should be unfamiliar to him. Secondly, the ensemble could include four musicians at most, excluding the drum set. Thirdly, it should be able to perform both amplified and acoustic. Vespera Quartet's music is cinematic and melodic, it mixes nordic jazz with modern classical music and improvised music. The ensemble is made up of the most interesting Helsinki-based instrumentalists.

Martti Vesalan kokoama Vespera Quartet syntyi tarpeesta haastaa itseään säveltäjänä: ensinnäkin, instrumentaatio ei saisi olla hänelle entuudestaan tuttu. Toisekseen, kokoonpano saisi olla maksimissaan kvartetti, eikä siinä saisi olla rumpusettiä. Kolmanneksi, sen tulisi pystyä esiintymään sekä vahvistettuna että täysin akustisena.
Tenhossa 21.4.2024 ensiesiintymisensä tekevän yhtyeen musiikissa yhdistyvät pohjoismaisen jazzin äänimaisema, modernin klassisen musiikin sekä improvisoidun musiikin sävyt. Kokoonpanoltaan uniikin Vespera Quartetin musiikissa kokonaisuus on huomattavasti enemmän kuin osiensa summa. Tämän hetken kiinnostavimmista suomalaisista jazzin ja improvisoidun musiikin saralla vaikuttavista muusikoista kootun kvartetin saumattomaksi hiottu yhteissoitto sekä yksilöiden huikeat solistiset taidot pitävät kuulijan otteessaan konsertin viimeisiin säveliin asti.
