What makes UMO of today into UMO? The club night gives voice to those who are part of the everyday life of UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and who contribute to the current sound of the orchestra. We focus on UMO’s current musicians as well as the composers writing the music that the orchestra plays, namely the visionary big band arrangers and composers of today. The concert programme reflects the identity of the current UMO and the uniquely high calibre of the orchestra’s soloists. Mikko Hassinen conducts the concert, guiding UMO and the fabulous soloists from the orchestra, whose compositions are premiered this evening in arrangements commissioned for the club night. During the evening, you might hear fascinating and seldom-shared stories from behind the curtains, as the spotlight is exceptionally shared with some of the forces behind the orchestra. As before, the witty and captivating host of the club night is Laura Haimila. The club night Creators opens the door to UMO’s inner circle and casts the spotlight on the faces and voices making UMO exactly what it is – a living, breathing and constantly evolving nexus of jazz power.

Tickets from the Music Centre’s web store and phone service, as well as during the opening hours of the ticket sales customer service point. The phone service (tel. 0600 411 101, price per call 0,99 e/min + standard network rate) is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm. In addition to single club tickets, you can also purchase a season ticket that includes all six club nights or season tickets for three nights of your choice.
The club has no age limit. The capacity is quite limited; there are only around two hundred tickets available for each night. The seating is club-style, and there is a limited number of unnumbered seats. Each club night lasts around two hours, including an intermission.

UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new club concerts series. The series comprising six club nights wraps up the history of the orchestra in the words “UMO before, now and in the future”.
For decades, the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra has been at the forefront of Finnish jazz. Starting in summer 2025 and continuing all the way to spring 2026, the orchestra will celebrate its 50th anniversary. During the years, the orchestra has transformed many times. Once again, it’s time to create something new as UMO launches its club nights at the Helsinki Music Centre’s Black Box in collaboration with the Music Centre, bringing a touch of international jazz club culture to Helsinki.
The pulsating jazz club offers six surprising and intimate nights, during which UMO, together with guest artists, introduces different aspects of itself, from the traditional to the experimental. Each club night also includes a discussion, inviting interesting and sometimes even surprising guests to speak. The discussions and club nights are hosted by journalist, presenter, and influencer Laura Haimila.
– UMO’s new club in Black Box at the Music Centre is a place that brings together friends of jazz and big band music. Together with guest soloists, conductors, composers, arrangers, participants in conversations as well as the audience, UMO creates moments that challenge our expectations and open up new dimensions by merging the traditional and the experimental. Helsinki Music Centre is a concert and event venue in the centre of Helsinki that’s open to all. Every year, we host more than 1,000 events from classical, jazz and folk music concerts to corporate gatherings and private celebrations. Kapellimestarina toimii Mikko Hassinen, joka luotsaa UMOa ja konsertin keskiössä säihkyviä orkesterin omia solisteja, joiden sävellykset pääsevät esille tätä konserttia varten tilattuina ja nyt kantaesitettävinä sovituksina. Illan aikana saatat kuulla kiehtovia ja harvoin jaettuja tarinoita kulissien takaa, sillä valokeila osoittaa poikkeuksellisesti myös orkesterin taustavoimiin. Illan terävänä ja mukaansatempaavana hostina ja keskustelujen vetäjänä toimii tuttuun tapaan Laura Haimila. UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra juhlistaa 50-vuotista olemassaoloaan uudella klubikonserttisarjalla. Kuuden klubi-illan sarja paketoi orkesterin historian muotoon ”UMO ennen, nyt ja tulevaisuudessa”.
50-vuotisjuhlakauttaan kesästä 2025 kevääseen 2026 viettävä UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra on ollut vuosikymmenten ajan suomalaisen jazzin huipulla. Orkesteri on vuosien varrella luonut nahkansa monta kertaa uudelleen. Jälleen on luvassa uutta, kun UMO aloittaa klubi-illat Musiikkitalon Black Boxissa yhteistyössä Musiikkitalon kanssa ja tuo Helsinkiin ripauksen kansainvälistä jazzklubikulttuuria.
Jazzia sykkivä klubi tarjoaa kuusi yllätyksellistä ja intiimiä iltaa, joissa UMO vieralijoineen esittelee eri puoliaan perinteisestä kokeilevaan. Kussakin klubi-illassa on mukana keskusteluosuus, johon UMO kutsuu mielenkiintoisia, yllättäviäkin vieraita. Keskustelut juontaa ja illat hostaa toimittaja, juontaja ja vaikuttaja Laura Haimila.

Musiikkitalo on kaikille avoin konsertti- ja tapahtumatalo Helsingin ydinkeskustassa. Talossa järjestetään vuosittain lähes 1300 tapahtumaa: konsertteja klassisesta musiikista jazziin, kansanmusiikkiin ja rock-keikkoihin sekä yritystapahtumia ja yksityistilaisuuksia. Yli puolet yleisötapahtumista on maksuttomia, joten kulttuurista pääsee nauttimaan helposti.
