Before samba, before bossa nova, there was choro. Choro originated in Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th century, combining European popular genres with African rhythms to create a unique style that composer Heitor Villa-Lobos called "the true incarnation of the Brazilian soul."
The duo formed by Olli Soikkeli and Italian-Brazilian choro master Cesar Garabini has traveled the world with their unique "gypsy meets choro" theme and now arrives for the first time at Hietaniemi Beach.
Opening the evening is the Koi Trio, consisting of vocalist Kadi Vija, wind player Milo Linnovaara, and cellist Aino Juutilainen. The band's music navigates the waves of jazz, contemporary music, and improvised music from the members' perspectives....

Ennen kuin oli samba, ennen kuin oli bossa nova, oli choro. Choro syntyi Rio de Janeirossa 1800-luvun lopulla ja yhdisti eurooppalaiset suositut genret afrikkalaisiin rytmeihin luoden ainutlaatuisen tyylin, jota säveltäjä Heitor-Villa-Lobos kutsui ”brasilialaisen sielun todelliseksi inkarnaatioksi”. 
Olli Soikkelin ja italialais-brasilialaisen choron mestarin, Cesar Garabinin muodostama duo on kiertänyt maailmaa ainutlaatuisella ”gypsy meets choro” teemallaan ja saapuu nyt ensimmäistä kertaa Hietaniemen rantaan.
Illan aloittava Koi-trio on vokalisti Kadi Vijan, puhaltaja Milo Linnovaaran ja sellisti Aino Juutilaisen muodostama tuore kokoonpano. Yhtyeen musiikki seilaa jäsenten lähtökohdista käsin jazzin, nykymusiikin ja improvisoidun musiikin aalloilla.
Valtionpalkittu Hietsu is Happening! on Helsingin Hietaniemessä Hietsun Paviljongissa (ja joskus sen liepeillä) tapahtuva ennakkoluulottomasti eri taidealojen rajapinnoilla liikkuva, monimuotoinen tapahtumasarja. Sen taiteellisina kuraattoreina toimivat Hietsun Paviljongilla majailevat muusikot Mikko Innanen, Petri Kumela ja Antti Lötjönen.  HiH! tarjoaa esiintyjilleen vapaan kokeilun ja mahdollisuuksien alustan. Tapahtumasarjan kuratoinnissa taiteiden lajit, ennakkokäsitykset, luomista ohjaavat konventiot ja muut raja-aidat asetetaan uudelleen tarkasteluun: olennaista on mahdollistaa taiteilijoiden ja taiteiden välinen vuoropuhelu tinkimättömästi ja luoda samalla kokonaan uusia ja uudenlaisia teoskokonaisuuksia.
