We Jazz 2023 x Fat Lizard: Kenneth Jimenez Quartet + Borderlands Trio at G Livelab

Helsinki's most impactful jazz event We Jazz Festival takes over G Livelab.
On stage: two strong groups from the influential New York scene. Borderlands trio is Kris Davis on piano, Stephan Crump on double bass and Eri McPherson on drums. As journalist Peter Margasak writes: "Borderlands Trio's works float, roil, swing, breathe, rush, and sparkle without every revealing any sort of hesitation or falling into a rut. The musicians don’t follow one another and they eschew glib reaction. Instead, they sit with the flowing ideas, thinking ahead about where the music could go."
Brooklyn-based bassist/composer Kenneth Jimenez releases his debut album with We Jazz just before the festival. Jimenez, originally from Costa Rica, has a knack at composing pieces that breathe naturally and take flight on the wings provided by the first-rate quartet, joining scene stalwarts and newcomers together as a coherent unit. Borderlands Trio on pianisti Kris Davisin, basisti Stephan Crumpin ja rumpali Eric McPhersonin – kaikki skenessään ja maailmalla hehkutettuja huippunimiä. Yhdessä trio luo hypnoottista, luonnollisesti soljuvaa musiikkia johon on suloista upota.
Brooklynissä asuva, Costa Ricasta lähtöisin oleva basisti-säveltäjä Kenneth Jimenez esittää uuden levynsä Sonnet to Silence julkaisukonsertin. We Jazz julkaisee levyn, jolla Jimenez astuu esiin omaäänisenä ja eteenpäin suuntautuneena säveltäjänä. Vapaa ilmaisu ja pyörteinen rytmiikka kohtaava Jimenezin musiikissa luontevasti. Basistin mukana ovat saksofonisti Hey Paz, pianisti Angelica Sanchez ja rumpali Tom Rainey.
Ennen illan keikkoja yleisöllä on mahdollisuus osallistua Fat Lizardin kanssa yhteistyössä toteutettavaan olut-tastingiin. Sekä keikat että tastingin sisältävä lippu tulee myyntiin pian.
