Tim Hagans Quartet at MATCH - Midtown Arts & Theater Center

Tim Hagans, heralded as one of the most influential voices in modern jazz, has formed a new quartet to bring forth his wildly creative music.

The three-time Grammy nominated trumpet player and composer is ever the musical subversive. “I’m not comfortable making comfortable music,” Hagans says. “This new band achieves a kind of spontaneous combustion of raw energy that is for me the essence of jazz. This might sound like a contradiction, but all my music is tightly structured to allow for the wildest playing possible.”

Hagans writes: I was so impressed by guitarist Rez Abbasi's unique voice and ability to really explore and experiment when we worked together in the Miles From India Band at San Francisco Jazz and on tour. I knew when I formed my new quartet, he would be the guitarist." Hagans and bassist Thomas Helton have written music for each other as featured soloists with their respective ensembles and as performers with the Michele Brangwen Dance & Music Ensemble in New York City & Houston. Their history of collaboration and friendship serves as a launching pad for live dynamic collaboration.
