He recorded with Roy Hargrove’s Crisol Band (whose recording, Havana, was awarded the Grammy for best latin jazz performance in 1997) and Grammy-nominated Obsesion by David Sánchez, Tito Puente, Hilton Ruiz, Antonio Hart, The Tropi-Jazz All Stars, The Mingus Big Band, the Caribbean Jazz Project, and Eddi Palmieri who once called him “the greatest bass player in the world.”
Gerardo Contino has been a part of a number of famous Cuban bands in Havana since his youth. Most recently, Gerardo was the lead singer for NG La Banda, one of the most recognized Cuban Salsa and Jazz orchestras in Cuba, under the directorship of Jose Luis Cortes.
With NG La Banda, as well as his other groups, Son Yoruba, and Charanga Forever, he has toured in Italy, France,
Spain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and all throughout the Americas. Gerardo has also shared the stage with such artists as Oscar de Leon, Roberto Roena, El Gran Combo, La India, Los Van Van, Xiomara Laugart, and John Benitez. In New York City, he has performed at Sounds of Brazil (SOBs), Gonzalez y Gonzalez, Guantanamera, and Havana Central.
