The School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be opening the semester with the visit of the Fidel Morales Afro – Cuban Jazz Trio. The group is known for their virtuosity, dynamic and rhythmically intricate performances. This event is financed thanks to the SIU Fine Arts Fee.

The band’s leader, Fidel Morales is a drummer & percussionist from Havana, Cuba now based in Puerto Rico where he teaches drum set at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. Morales is a professor at the Jazz and Caribbean Music Area of the Conservatory. He has performed with artists such as Danilo Pérez, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Giovanni Hidalgo, Eddie Gómez, John Faddis, Mark Kramer, Mike Orta, Gary Campbell, Gary Keller and Vic Juris. He contributed as well in the CD “Bajando Gervasio”, by Amadito Valdés, nominated for 2004 GRAMMY Awards. Morales is preparing for the release of his 3rd album “Omío”....
