James Dapogny’s Chicago Jazz Band, an internationally known group, will bring Gennett Records to life once again in Richmond, Indiana. Dapogny has performed to sold-out audiences at the Kennedy Center, given lecture concerts for the Smithsonian and opened for Benny Goodman. Specializing in authentic and spirited classic jazz, Dapogny’s band plays turn-of-the-century ragtime, New Orleans and Chicago Jazz of the 1920s, and small-band swing of the 1930s. The November 13th performance in Vivian Auditorium at Indiana University East will focus on “Music Born in Richmond” with the sounds of Bix Beiderbecke, Jelly Roll Morton, and other early Gennett recording artists....
