Cellist Erik Friedlander has been described as “one of today’s most ingenious and forward-thinking musical practitioners” (Billboard Magazine). The son of the celebrated American photographer, Lee Friedlander, Erik grew up in a household filled with the sounds of his father’s famous subjects – Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane – and a passion for r&b and jazz infuses his groundbreaking work. A composer and improviser, a classical musician and a jazzbo, he has played with artists as diverse as John Zorn, Laurie Anderson and Courtney Love, while his own genre-crossing albums embrace both jazz and classical traditions. Whether playing solo or performing with one of his bands, Friedlander explores the boundaries of what the cello can be made to do while maintaining a firm grasp on tradition. FLM Ensemble met while pursuing an MMus in performance at Dublin Institute of Technology. Coming from a range of musical backgrounds, the trio have forged a distinctive improvisational approach: open yet focused, with each musician drawing from a blend of acoustic and electronic influences to create a richly-textured sound. Shane Latimer is equally at home playing jazz guitar, improvising on prepared instruments or sampling/processing live instruments. He has performed at various festivals, including Cork Jazz Festival, DEAF and Electric Picnic, and played jazz and improvised music in Europe and North America. Claire Fitch is a cellist, composer, improviser and string arranger who performs regularly with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, The Orchestra of St Cecelia and the Irish Film Orchestra. She has performed and recorded with artists such as U2, Kate Bush, Smokey Robinson and The Corrs. Her award-winning music production company has provided music for games, film, advertising, theatre and television. 
Drummer James Mackin tours regularly in North America and Europe performing in everything from arena rock shows to film score improvisations in cinemas. He has numerous album, film and television credits to his name and can also be seen this year performing with 3epkano.
