Baltık Denizi’ndeki Gotland Adası’nda yaşayan İsveçli piyanist Carl Orrje Visby Big Band’in piyanisti ve aranjörlüğünü yapıyor. 2004 yılından itibaren Japon piyasasına yönelik altı albüm çıkardı. Kore dizileri ve filmlerinde yer alan parçalarının yer aldığı bu albümler dışında iki albümünde ise Miazaki Aimee filmlerinde yer alan parçalara yer verdi. 2004′ün sonunda ‘Piano Fantasy’ isimli albümde yer aldı. Bu albümde yer alan diğer piyanistler Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau, Ewa Boblocka ve Fujiko Hemming de var. İsveç’te birlikte turladığı müzisyenlerden bazıları Chris Potter, Bobby Shew ve Tim Hagans. 10 yıl New York’ta yaşayan Orrje Manhattan School of Music’te burslu master yaptı. Bu dönemde Kenny Barron, Jaki Bayard ve Hugo Goldenzweig ile birlikte çalıştı, Essiet Essiet, Tony Reedus ve Eliot Zigmund ile kayıtlar yaptı. Daha önce Polonya, Şili, Hollanda, Almanya, Danimarka, Finlandiya, Malezya ve Endonezya’da festivallerde yer aldı. Bu gece Nardis’te standartlara yer verecekler....

Carl Orrje is a Swedish pianist currently residing in Gotland, which is one of the biggest islands in the Baltic Sea. There, he is employed by Gotlandsmusiken; a government regional music providing institution. His job includes being a pianist and musical director of Visby Jazz Trio, as well as pianist and arranger for Visby Big Band.
Carl Orrje has been working in Gotland since January 2004. Since then his work has included a great diversity of music performance such as classical chamber music concerts, performing George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Mozart’s piano concerto no. 20 as a soloist with orchestra, continuous performance with the Visby Jazz Trio and Visby Big Band, sometimes in collaboration with guest artists such as trumpeter James Morrison or some of Sweden’s foremost singers and instrumentalists. He has also performed with the Visby Jazz Trio in Poland and Slovakia.
In 2005 Carl had a composition commissioned by the Swedish foundation for culture. This resulted in a suite for Jazz trio and woodwind quintet. The work was featured on Swedish National Radio in May 2006.
Besides his position in Gotland, Carl Orrje also does a lot of freelance work. Since the fall of 2004, Carl has released six albums for the Japanese market. The music includes songs from Korean dramas and movies as well as two albums featuring songs from the Miazaki Aimee movies. All albums are co-produced and arranged by Carl Orrje and have been very well received by the Japanese market. In the end of 2004, Carl also appeared on one track of the piano album “Piano fantasy”, released on Victor Entertainment. On the album he is featured together with pianists Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Bill Evans, Brad Meldau, Ewa Poblocka and Fujiko Hemming. During the last three years Carl has also toured in Sweden with among others Chris Potter, Bobby Shew and Tim Hagans. In 2005 he performed with Norrbotten Big Band in Croatia and Serbia.
Before starting his current employment in Gotland, Carl was living and freelancing in New York for almost 10 years. In New York, Carl has studied at The Mannes College of Music and holds a master degree from Manhattan School of Music (scholarship student). His teachers have been Kenny Barron, Jaki Bayard and also concert pianist Hugo Goldenzweig. He has recorded with bassist Essiet Essiet and drummers Tony Reedus and Eliot Zigmund.
Earlier in Sweden, Carl Orrje has been a featured artist at the Swedish Concert Institute for two years. He has collaborated with top players of Sweden like Bernt Rosengren and Rolf Ericson and has recorded as a sideman on nine CDs. He holds a degree from The Royal College of Music, in Stockholm. In December of 2003 his trio album ”Skylight” was released and got raving reviews in the Swedish press.
Carl Orrje has also performed at international festivals in Poland, Chile, Holland, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Malaysia and Indonesia.
