The musicians of this trio have played with each other in various different projects but this will be their first time together as a trio. Their music involves a lot of improvisation and musical synergy. A delightful night awaits all listeners.

Önder Focan started music by playing mandolin at the age of 8. He switched to guitar at 15 and concentrated on jazz in 1975. Being mainly self- taught, he has become a jazz musician most sought after as a guitarist, player, composer arranger and lyrics writer. In 1986, he got married to Zuhal Focan with whom he founded Nardis Jazz Club in 2002.
Focan improved his skills in music and teaching by attending seminars by IAJE (International Association for Jazz Musicians). From 1996 to 1999, he conducted Jazz Ensemble courses at the Istanbul Academy. In 1997, he performed in the Guitar Night that was organized by MIDEM (Marché International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale) with 11 international guitarists representing Istanbul Culture and Arts Fund (IKSV).
Between the years of 2001 and 2005, he taught harmony classes at Mujdat Gezen Art Centre where he was elected as the best artist in Western Music in 2000. At Yildiz Technical University, he lectured “Jazz Styles in Analysis” in 2003-2004 and also “Jazz Guitar” in 2006-2007.
Since 2002, he has been the art director of Nardis Jazz Club, where he organizes concerts for more than 315 musicians and accompanies them on stage every year. Some of these musicians are Benny Golson, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Al Foster, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Roy Haynes, Tierney Sutton, Kenny Drew Jr, Roseanne Vitro, Christian Mc Bride, Roy Hargrove, Ron Carter and majority of top local musicians.
Always valuing and recognizing social responsibility projects, Focan has directed and the coordinated IPMN (Istanbul – Pori Music Networking). This project supported jazz education, enabling young musicians to have experience on stage in both cities, Istanbul and Pori.
He has released 13 CD’s. In 1998, featuring the great drummer Bill Stewart and Hammond B3 player Sam Yahel, his album “Beneath The Stars” honored him as the first Turkish Jazz musician to have released an album on Blue Note label.
He has participated in 94 Festivals, while 43 have taken place in various cities in Turkey, the other 51 have been in other countries such as the USA, France, Germany, france, China, Malta, Italy, Brazil, Senegal, Finland, Australia, Jordan, Hungary, Switzerland, Croatia, Serbia, Cameroun, Estonia and many others.

Mehmet Cem Tuncer was born in 1978. He studied guitar with Sarp Maden and Gökçen Taskiran, music theory withcemsSemih Korucu and Mehmet Nemutlu, ensemble with Bulent Ortaçgil and Önder Focan at AKADEMI ISTANBUL Jazz Department in 1997. He won a scholarship from Istanbul Bilgi University in 1998 and worked with important musicians such as Neset Ruacan, Kamil Özler, Ali Perret, L.Butch Morris, Can Kozlu, Aydin Esen, Imer Demirer, Ricky Ford, Selen Gülün, Mike Wilkens during his undergraduate study. He played in Belgium Sfinks and Amsterdam Music Festivals in 1999; in Germany Hildesheim Festival, in Zurih, Basel, Stuttgart, Berlin and Hanoover in 2000; in Gent and Brussels at the Ethnic Music Festival, in 2002. He also took place in various activities and concerts in Ricky Ford’s Istanbul Jazz Collective, the same year in Babylon, Istanbul. He worked as the Assistant Arranger of Önder Focan’s Purple in Blue project in 2000 International Istanbul Jazz Festival and played many duo guitar concerts with Önder Focan. Tuncer completed his undergraduate study in ISTANBUL BILGI UNIVERSITY Composition Department. In 2002 and worked in I.B.U as a Teaching Assistant for 1 year. He taught Jazz Guitar and Ensemble classes in YILDIZ TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY between 2002 -2008. Tuncer was elected to represent Turkey in the 2008 International Young Jazz Guitarist Competition held in Estonia, and won the 2nd place. He was awarded with the invitations of Romania Garana Jazz Festival 2008 and Pori Jazz Festival 2008 & 2010 where he played with Ted Curson, Harvie S., Enrico Granafei, Onder Focan,3 GuitarISTanbul, Vitali Imereli, Reiska Laine, Toivo Unt ,Marian Petrescu, Eric McPherson, Abraham Burton, David Bryant, Dezron Douglas,Jyrki Kangas. He made film musics (with Nail Yurtsever & Engin Arslan) , Ali’nin Sekiz Günü, 2008; Vali, 2008; Dilber’in Sekiz Günü, by which he won the 2009 Ankara Film Festival Music Award; and Acı, 2009; and TV Series Musics such as Gece Sesleri, 2008; Rüzgar, 2008; Sinekli Bakkal (with Cigdem Erken), 2008; Servet Avcısı, 2008; Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki, 2010; Adını Feriha Koydum, 2011; Canan, 2011; and worked as a Vocal Coach in High School Musical, Walt Disney, 2008 (Turkey) In addition to his carrier in Jazz and film musics, Tuncer still plays and tours with 3GuitarISTanbul (with Önder Focan & Murat Usanmaz), Curly Trio (with Elif Çağlar Muslu & Kerem Türkaydın) ,Zuhal Olcay, Gürol Ağırbaş, Melis Sökmen, Jülide Özçelik, Aykut Gürel & İrem Records, Deniz Seki, Sezen Aksu (recent double CD, 2009) and works as a studio musician, arranger, composer and producer. He plays as a member of TRT Jazz Orchestra since 2008 and continues his graduate study in ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY Conservatory in Composition Department. caglayansCaglayan Yıldız was born in Aydın in 1966, and grew up in Izmir. He started playing the guitar at the age of 17. While studying medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at Aegean University, he continued his music projects (rock, blues, funk, and jazz). He pursued his study in music at Bilkent University, Conservatory Jazz Department with a full scholarship.
Yıldız has played with most of the prominent artists of the Turkish jazz scene, and appeared on several jazz albums. He has also worked as a performer and arranger with renowned artists such as Tarkan, Kubat, Grup Gündoğarken, Baris Manço, Ugur Yücel, Sener Sen, Aysegül, Grup Durga and Bosphorus in other genres. Yıldız taught guitar at the Akademi Istanbul. He wrote articles for “Jazz” magazine of Turkey.
In 2000, Yıldız studied jazz guitar, jazz bass guitar, jazz arranging and composition at a Conservatory in Amsterdam. He studied Classical composition with Henk Alkema at Utrecht Conservatory, and graduated with honors in a year. Along with Classical composition, Yıldız studied Electronic composition with Rene Uijlenhoet at Rotterdam Conservatory in 2003-2004. In 2006, Yıldız completed his Electronic Music studies at Utrecht University KMT and graduated with “European Master of Media Arts” and “Composition in Contexts Master” degrees.
From 2000 to 2006, Yıldız worked actively as a leader, composer, and performer in jazz, crossover & theater projects such as Turqumstances, Big Bad Bug Band, Çağlayan Yıldız Odd-Tett, AZ (duo with Oğuz Büyükberber), Dört-tett-lü, “Zijde, Staal & Bronze” (with Ensemble Gending), “I, Human” (a TR-NL Theater Project), “Ferhat& Şirin” (a TR-NL Theater Project); and performed in many festivals and venues. He also taught guitar at a Music School in Amsterdam. In 2005, he gave a week-long workshop in the Jazz Department at Utrecht Conservatory and Rotterdam Conservatory. Besides being performer and composer, Yıldız worked as an editor and copyist for a music publishing company. Since his return to Turkey in 2006, Yıldız has continued working on various projects.
