The Mezza / Ginsburg Ensemble is a collaboration between Italian born Vittorio Mezza (L), award-winning pianist, and Mark Ginsburg (R), South African born and Australian based saxophonist.
The two met in New York in 2009 and have worked together on a number of projects including performances in Italy, two tours in South Africa, an Australian tour including two international jazz festivals.
Their album Convergence, released by Ozella Music, has received excellent reviews with one of the tracks being the most listened to on the All About Jazz for 2 consecutive months after its release. The album also won “Best Jazz CD 2018” Indie Acoustic Project Award (USA).
VITTORIO MEZZA
Vittorio Mezza, pianist, composer, arranger and music professor is considered one of the most interesting and original musicians on the Italian scene. He has opened concerts for
the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Peter Erskine Trio and the Mike Stern Band, and played at the Standard Bank
Jazz Festival in Grahamstown (South Africa). He was semi-finalist at the
TIM in Marseille (France) and was the only Italian pianist to compete in the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition in 2005. He has performed in the United States, Canada, Germany, South Africa, Cameroon, Switzerland, France and Australia. Vittorio also composed the official hymn for UNESCO – ONU ‘’Libertà va cercando’’, dedicated to freedom, human rights, freedom of the press and especially
to ending impunity for crimes against journalists.
“… among the
most sensitive and profound pianists on the national jazz
scene.”
Luciano Vanni, JAZZIT Magazine Italy
MARK GINSBURG
Ginsburg has performed extensively in Australia and internationally.
His debut album, Generations, was nominated for Best Independent Jazz Album in Australia in 2010.
It features his Australian rhythm section, the acclaimed players who join this ensemble, Karl Dunnicliff on bass and Tim Firth on drums.
“From the opening notes of solo saxophone, Ginsburg rains gorgeous melodies about our ears… But it
is the way this melodic lavishness continues through the improvising that makes the album special, each composition sustaining a distinctive character from beginning to end.” John Shand, Sydney
Morning Herald
“Ginsburg shows that he can play a fine, multi-faceted
horn.”
