Donna Scott, an award winning, NARAS recording artist, GRAMMY recognized voting member, sultry contralto and an American jazz singer.
Jazz critics describe me as “having the richness and sass” of Phyllis Hyman, the sophistication of Nancy Wilson and Sarah Vaughan, while also possessing my own deliberate style and grace.”
Donna Elise Scott, a versatile, evocative, contralto jazz singer, is an award winning GRAMMY recognized recording artist, NARAS voting member and CEO/President of Majic Dragon Multimedia. Based on Houston, Texas, Majic Dragon works with recording artists from conception through duplication and promotion. As a jazz performer, Donna does jazz standards, torch songs, blues, with a bit of pop, R&B, Neo Soul and even country. Donna has performed as a featured soloist in Big Bands, Latin jazz combos, R&B revues and jazz festivals throughout the US and Africa. On August 28, 2019, Donna released “Superstar,” a Vocal jazz single featuring GRAMMY winner Gregoire Maret on harmonica. The entire CD, “A Carpenter from Chicago,” will be released in March 2020. Her second CD, “Carnival,” was released on June 23, 2017 and garnered critical praise. The liner notes were written by multi GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY award winning producer Kabir Sehgal and has prominent sidemen from around the world including GRAMMY award winning flutist Wouter Kellerman, Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren, Italian guitarist Marco Bittelli, and a host of others. Her debut, award winning CD, “Somehow I Knew,” was critically acclaimed and, enjoyed in 33 counties. A native Chicagoan who now lives in Houston, Donna has wowed audiences and clinicians at jazz festivals locally and nationally. On June 8, 2018, Donna received her MM in Vocal Jazz Performance at the Lamont School of Music, the University of Denver. While in Colorado she regularly performed at La Cour Art Bar and Bistro and appeared at other jazz clubs in the Colorado area such as Dazzle, Motif Jazz Cafe and a one hour appearance on KUVO radio. She continues to perform in Colorado and other cities. Donna has performed with the late Joe Sample, Jewell Brown, John Faddis, Andre Hayward and others. Donna plays piano, tenor and bass trombone and is also a member of the Joe Sample Jazz Orchestra. A proud alumni of Texas Southern University, Donna graduates valedictorian, summa cum laude (4.0).
