Winner of the Chicco Bettinardi New Talents of Italian Jazz 2018 competition, Manuela Ciunna is a singer and songwriter. A charismatic timbre and strong introspective quality. He studied classical guitar even before singing, he is fond of percussion, in particular the pandeiro.
He began his musical journey mainly in Sicily: he attended the Jazz environment of his homeland and beyond, he obtained his master’s degree in Jazz at the Morlacchi of Perugia with full marks and honors. He studies VoiceCraft, today he is an EVT Master Teacher enabled, and he also studies in New York with Lauren Kinhan, Jay Clayton, Bob Stoloff.
He studied first with the soprano Sonia Coco, then jazz repertoire with Antonella Leotta, Stefania Patanè, Rosalba Bentivoglio, Maria Patti, Marta Raviglia and Alessia Obino.
He attended various training courses supported by singers known as Cinzia Spata (jazz), Barbara Casini (Brazilian music), Anne Ducros (jazz improvisation), Joey Blake (circle songs) and Denise King (jazz and soul).
He participated in the summer seminars of the “”Berklee College of Music”” of the Umbria Jazz Festival with Ann Peckham, Dennis Montgomery and Donna McElroy, among others, and in the seminars of “”Messina Sea Jazz Festival”” with Gegè Telesforo and Maria Pia De Vito.
From 2010 he began a personal research on the Brazilian musical tradition, which is why he repeatedly reaches Rio de Janeiro.
So from this musical combination comes the participation and collaboration with many musicians of the jazz and Brazilian scene, such as Alfredo Paixao, Eddy Palermo, Shlomi Goldenberg, Ori Wallace, Neney Santos, StjepKo Gut and boasts concerts in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem with the established project in duo with the pianist Seby Burgio, and Rio de Janeiro with the recent Brazilian project with the samba singer Ana Costa.
In 2015 the first album entirely dedicated to Brazilian music with the participation of the Cioca saxophonist Daniela Spielmann and the second record work is out.”
