Melvin Smith Jazz Ensemble at Nefja Summer Jazz Fest at Daytona State College Amphitheater

Keep cool at the North East Florida Jazz Association (NEFJA) annual Summer Jazz Fest.
The Melvin Smith Jazz Ensemble will perform a tribute to the great Wayne Shorter as well as music from saxophonist Smith's new CD. Performing with Smith will be Lawrence Buckner on bass, Mack McKnight on drums, and keyboardist Jonah Pierre.
The afternoon of great Jazz will be kicked off by a special opening act. The Taylor Snell Collective features two winners of NEFJA's music scholarships--a tangible demonstration of how NEFJA is achieving its mission of keeping Jazz alive through providing scholarships and live Jazz performances. Snell, the band's leader who plays the saxophone, and drummer Ethan Grussgott are both Jazz Studies majors at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and recipients of NEFJA scholarships.
