Soul Song Records was founded in 2023 by bassist Yosef Gutman Levitt as a home for his music and that of cherished musical friends and colleagues. The focus is building local talent in Levitt’s home city of Jerusalem, around Israel and worldwide through international collaborations. The Soul Song production style is spacious, living and emotionally resonant. The music is masterfully performed and emotionally engaging, a fusion of world and contemporary music with strong jazz and classical elements. Levitt and friends draw inspiration from varied traditions, including those rooted in Jewish culture, in a modern garb and with a soft, warm and cushioned sonic palette.

“The goal is to create music, and to create a label that stimulates others to do the same—to make their soul song,” Levitt says. “To create music that’s intimate and honest, improvised, stripping away anything that’s not needed. What’s important is that the music is inspired by something higher. I want to work with artists who are interested in getting to that place.” The label’s inaugural releases include Levitt’s The World and Its People, the Levitt-Lionel Loueke collaboration Soul Song, and the resplendent Melodies of Light from pianist Omri Mor and the rapturously melodic Why Ten? with the eminent guitarists Gilad Hekselman.
