Guitarist and singer Omara ‘Bombino’ Moctar is the latest Saharan musician to find meteoric rise in the West. Born and raised in Agadez, Niger, Bombino is a member of the Tuareg Ifoghas tribe, a nomadic people descended from the Berbers of North Africa.
Rolling Stone magazine called his 2013 album Nomad ‘the most exciting blues album of the year’, in which his supple licks and grooves find an extra crunch and touch of sweetness from arrangements by Dan Auerbach (Black Keys). Bombino’s intensity and unflashy brilliance make this is an unmissable performance from him and his band.
