Tenor sax player Mark Hanslip brings with him a vast array of experience touring across the UK, Europe and the US, working with major figures including Steve Lacy, Kenny Wheeler and Bob Brookmeyer. Now based in Manchester, his focus has been on the improvised end of the music.
This trio features two other extraordinary musicians from the Manchester scene, Adam Fairhall on Hammond organ and Johnny Hunter on drums. Their music throws together contemporary and free jazz playing with the kinds of grooves that you might normally expect from this kind of line up. Music by composers like Carla Bley and Herbie Hancock runs alongside new original compositions, full of unexpected twists and played with creativity, instrumental flair, and drive.
