From 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Monday, 16 June 2014 (after its annual board meeting earlier that evening), the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation will hold its 2014 Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Celebration at The Afterthought, the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously (at least once a week) since the 1970s. An evening of fine jazz will be provided by distinguished Arkansas musicians after the induction ceremony. An evening of fine jazz will be provided by distinguished Arkansas musicians after the induction ceremony. Performers include Fedett "Lady J" Johnson (vocals), Nathan Hood (baritone sax), Julia Buckingham (keys), David Higginbotham (upright bass, vocals), and Brian Brown (drums). The evening will also include "by-invitation-only" sit-ins by other accomplished jazz artists.

Admission (waived for any adult paying $20 annual dues for 2014-2015 to the Foundation by 2 June 2014) is only $20 (cash/check at the door) but larger donations are encouraged to help offset the expense of the awards ceremony and support the Foundation's educational activities. (The Foundation publicly recognizes patrons donating at the $50/$100/$500/$1000 level.)

The adults-only induction ceremony and celebration is open to the public, but seating is limited in this intimate venue designed specifically for jazz. Reserved seating will be available only to Hall of Fame inductees and AJHF patrons/board members. Others planning to attend the event are encouraged to arrive early and dine at the venue in order to be assured of table seating; the adjoining restaurant's full menu (shown at www.afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is available in the club.

At its special semiannual meeting on 27 January 2014, the AJHF board voted to emphasize the 20-year milestone for the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame by presenting awards to 8 inductees: trombonist/vocalist Richard Boone (posthumous), vocalist Martha Burks, bassist Fred Marshall (posthumous), bassist Carwin Pleasant, trumpeter/educator Tom Richeson, percussionist Dave Rogers, percussionist/vocalist Robert Trezvant (posthumous), bassist Joe Vick. From 1994 through 2012, there were 42 inductions into the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame; profiles of those inductees are provided in the "Hall of Fame" section on the AJHF website (www.arjazz.org), which now serves primarily as an archival reference. Current information about the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation (an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation dedicated to educating the general public about the historical significance of jazz in Arkansas) is provided in the "About" section at the top of its Facebook page.
