Each week a diverse, multigenerational audience enjoys Monday Jazz (8-11 pm, $5 cover) at The Afterthought. Featured on 10 February 2014 will be the distinguished John Bush Quartet: John Bush (tenor sax), Tom Cox (piano), Bill Huntington (upright bass), Bryan Withers (drums). Other accomplished jazz artists may be invited to sit in. In addition to enjoying classic jazz standards and romantic ballads by one of Arkansas's most accomplished jazz quartets, those in attendance will be able to purchase (for just $10) a newly released CD by pianist Tom Cox and bassist Bill Huntington. The cover charge is waived for those ordering entrees in the adjoining restaurant, but a full menu (shown at www.afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is available in the bar during normal restaurant hours. During cold weather, the club's fireplace adds warmth to the intimate venue, which was designed specifically for jazz.

Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Afterthought and its adjoining restaurant occupy a building which served as the town hall for Pulaski Heights before its 1916 annexation by Little Rock. The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation/Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame holds its weekly meet-and-greet (as well as its quarterly, semiannual, and annual board meetings) before/during Monday Jazz at The Afterthought because it is the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously (at least once a week) since the 1970s. (That distinction earned the iconic club a place on the map in the first print edition of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Music, published in September 2013 by the Central Arkansas Library System's Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.)
