Monday Jazz: Alan Storeygard and Friends (CD Release Party for "New Directions") at Afterthought Bistro and Bar

Each week a diverse, multigenerational audience enjoys Monday Jazz (8-11 pm, $5 cover charge) at The Afterthought, where other accomplished jazz musicians are often invited to sit in with featured performers. On 18 August 2014, the evening will be devoted to a "New Directions" CD release party (open to the public) featuring Alan Storeygard (piano), Danny Fletcher (guitar), Brian Wolverton (upright bass), and 2014 Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame inductee Dave Rogers (drums). They may be joined by Tom Tiratto and/or Mark McDonald, who provided vocals for "New Directions." Copies of that new CD (as well as several earlier ones also available at www.cdbaby.com) will be on sale at the event for $15 each (including tax). The Afterthought usually waives the $5 Monday Jazz cover charge for anyone dining in its adjoining restaurant, but a full menu (shown at www.afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is available in the club during normal restaurant hours. In conjunction with Little Rock Restaurant Month (August), the venue is offering a $25 special including house salad or soup, any entrée, and any dessert.

The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation (which sponsors and maintains the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame) holds its weekly meet-and-greet during Monday Jazz at The Afterthought because it is the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously - at least once a week - since the 1970s. (That distinction earned the iconic club a place on the map in the first print edition of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Music, published in September 2013 by the Central Arkansas Library System's Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.) Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Afterthought and its adjoining restaurant occupy a building which served as the town hall for Pulaski Heights before its 1916 annexation by Little Rock.
