Monday Jazz: The Goat Band at Afterthought Bistro and Bar

Each week a diverse, multigenerational audience enjoys Monday Jazz (8-11 pm, $5 cover) at The Afterthought. Featured on 31 March 2014 is The Goat Band (composed of house musicians for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre): Steve Hudelson (guitar), Barry McVinney (sax), Brian Wolverton (upright bass), Patrick Lindsey (drums). Other accomplished jazz musicians may be invited to sit in. Photos of the venue and performers are posted on the Facebook page for the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation.

The club's cover charge is waived for those dining in the adjoining restaurant, but a full menu (shown at www.afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is available in the bar during normal restaurant hours. The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation/Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame holds its weekly meet-and-greet during Monday Jazz at The Afterthought because it is the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously (at least once a week) since the 1970s. (That distinction earned the iconic club a place on the map in the first print edition of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Music, published in September 2013 by the Central Arkansas Library System's Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.) Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Afterthought and its adjoining restaurant occupy a building which served as the town hall for Pulaski Heights before its 1916 annexation by Little Rock.
