Monday Jazz: Tiko Brooks and Phillip Mouton at Afterthought Bistro and Bar

Each week a diverse, multigenerational audience enjoys Monday Jazz (8-11 pm, $5 cover charge by venue) at The Afterthought, where other jazz musicians are often invited to sit in with featured performers. Featured on 22 December 2014 are Tiko Brooks (trombone, vocals), Phillip Mouton (alto sax, vocals), Quincy Watson (keys), Jay Starks (bass), and Manny Welch (drums).

The $5 cover charge is usually waived for those dining in the adjoining restaurant, but a full menu (shown at www.afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is also available in the adults-only club during normal restaurant hours. The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation (which sponsors and maintains the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame) holds each of its board meetings (as well as an occasional meet-and-greet) before/during Monday Jazz at The Afterthought because it is the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously - at least once a week - since the 1970s. (That distinction earned the iconic club a place on the map in the first print edition of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Music, published in September 2013 by the Central Arkansas Library System's Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.) Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Afterthought and its adjoining restaurant occupy a building which served as the town hall for Pulaski Heights before its 1916 annexation by Little Rock.
