Monday Jazz: Barry McVinney Combo at Afterthought Bistro and Bar

Each week a diverse, multigenerational audience enjoys Monday Jazz (8-11 pm, $5 cover) at The Afterthought, where other accomplished jazz musicians are often invited to sit in with featured performers.

On 14 April 2014, Barry McVinney (sax, flute) will be joined by Tom Cox (keys) and Bill Huntington (bass), a distinguished duo who recently released their "Red" CD (available at performances for just $10 and reviewed at www.allaboutjazz.com on 4 April 2014 by senior contributor/critic C. Michael Bailey, one of five directors for the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation/Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame). During the first set, Diane Lobacz McVinney and Cindy Odom Fuller will join McVinney on a few not-necessarily-jazz pieces to preview a flute duo recital being presented in the lobby of UAMS on Wednesday, 16 April 2014 (4:30-5:30 pm)....

The Monday Jazz cover charge is waived for those dining in the adjoining restaurant, but a full menu (shown at www.afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is available in the club during normal restaurant hours.

The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation/Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame holds its weekly meet-and-greet during Monday Jazz at The Afterthought because it is the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously (at least once a week) since the 1970s. (That distinction earned the iconic club a place on the map in the first print edition of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Music, published in September 2013 by the Central Arkansas Library System's Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.) Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Afterthought and its adjoining restaurant occupy a building which served as the town hall for Pulaski Heights before its 1916 annexation by Little Rock.
