About
Every Monday (8-11 p.m.) a diverse, multigenerational, adult audience enjoys live jazz at The Afterthought, where the $5 cover charge is waived for those dining in the venue's adjoining restaurant. (A full menu is also available in the club itself.) Featured on 16 December 2013 is the distinguished Tox Cox Trio: Tom Cox (keyboard), Bill Huntington (upright bass), Jay Payette (drums). Matt Dickson (tenor sax) will play during the last set, and other accomplished jazz artists may be invited to sit in. Note: Before moving to Arkansas after Hurricane Katrina, for many years Huntington played with Ellis Marsalis in New Orleans. When the Tom Cox Trio played at The Afterthought on 11 November 2013, there were sit-ins by saxophonist Matt Dickson, bassist Joe Vick, and two members of the nationally acclaimed Marcus Roberts Trio (bassist Rodney Jordan, percussionist Jason Marsalis). In addition to nearly a dozen Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation/Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame members (including President James Thomson, Vice President Benita Porter Browning, and Secretary Alita Mantels) and other notable aficionados, the audience included renowned pianist Marcus Roberts and more than a dozen other accomplished jazz musicians (e.g., Julia Buckingham, John Bush, Clifford Hawkins, Walter Henderson, Kelley Hurt, Gerald Johnson, Barry McVinney, Chris Parker, Tom Richeson, Ryk St. Vincent). ...
