About
Vocalist and piano supremo Dom Pipkin is one of Europe’s finest exponents of New Orleans Rhythm and Blues. His classical influences are married to a touch approach to the blues and driving left hand rhythms. “I can’t hold a candle to this guy ……” - Jamie Cullum. He has performed all over the world, both in a solo capacity and with artists as diverse as David Byrne, Paloma Faith, and Morcheeba and is a regular visitor to New Orleans performing in the prestigious “Piano Night” at the world-famous Jazz and Heritage Festival.
The Ikos are named after the New Orleans classic “Iko Iko” and along with a two-year residency at Ronnie Scott’s club in London they have headlined festivals up and down the land. Their sets mine the music of Dr John, Lee Dorsey, Professor Longhair, the Meters and the whole catalogue of traditional Louisiana R&B and funk, mixing the classics together with Pipkin’s own compelling song writing. Dom is joined by Ikos bass player Nick Pini, (Laura Marling, Tom Jones) and drummer Jimmy Norden, (Annie Lennox, Alice Russell) playing a highly infectious blend of jazz, blues, gospel and New Orleans street funk. Paul Jones of BBC Radio 2’s Blues Show describes them as “Lighting up the British blues and R&B scene. Very, very, good indeed!”. ...
