About
The Brandon Allen Quartet plays Gene Ammons: “Brandon Allen is arguably the most exciting tenor player in Britain today ….. his phrasing is unashamedly emotional, soaked in the blues tradition …..” Tony Hall – Jazzwise. A great chance to see acclaimed saxophonist Allen and his quartet paying musical tribute to one of the greats of the soul jazz movement of the mid-1960’s, Gene ‘Jug’ Ammons, who more than any other of the great saxophonists of his era such as Lester Young, Ben Webster or Charlie Parker, stayed in touch with the commercial blues and R&B of the day. Brandon, a much in demand saxophonist (Eric Clapton, Kyle Eastwood, Paloma Faith, Omar, Liane Caroll, Soweto Kinch, James Torme and Guy Barker et al) and his hugely talented line-up, Ross Stanley on piano and Hammond organ, Arnoe Somogyi on bass and Matt Home on drums will be swinging their way through this exiting one-off evening of soul jazz classics...
