About
Italian vocalist Irene Serra is a charismatic performer with a beautiful vocal style and assured stage presence. She sings a great repertoire that she describes as "...a mix of eclectic tunes from straight ahead jazz standards to swinging blues, beautiful Brazilian songs, pop arrangements and original tunes" and can be regularly seen in venues in and around London, including the Barbican (with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra), Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, Union Chapel & King’s Place. A thoughtful and intelligent musician she started studying jazz at the age of 16 at the Academy of Music in Milan and moved to London in 1999 to complete a BA in Performing Arts at the University of Surrey, going on to study at Goldsmiths College and then completing a Masters in Music Performance at the Guildhall School Of Music and Drama. Her poised performances have already earned her much critical acclaim: she was one of the semi-finalists in The Brussels International Young Jazz Singer competition in 2008 and was a finalist at the Shure Montreux Jazz Competition in 2009. Irene's original project, ISQ, was also named a Time Out London Critics Choice. For this 606 Club show, Irene will be joined by Naadia Sheriff-piano, Amy Baldwin-double bass and Emiliano Caroselli-drums....
