KMC is presenting a concert featuring the development of New Orleans brass band music and it's role in the community. They will discuss and demonstrate key stylistic components, including instrumentation, the bamboula and clave rhythms, group improvisation, and repertoire that developed from hymns and church music. They will trace the development of early brass band styles to modern practitioners and the influence of pop, jazz, funk, and hip hop on the genre.
