JMQ Jazz is delighted to bring 'Miss George' (Georgina Docherty) into our JMQ jazz family on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the welcoming Golden Gate Hotel at 7pm with stellar guest baritone-saxophonist, Tim Stocker. With them are JMQ's All-Star ensemble: Tony Floyd on drums, Michael Harding - piano, Ben Robertson -double bass, and John Montesante- trumpet.
MISS GEORGE:
Georgina Docherty, also known as 'Miss George,' grew up in Shropshire, UK, and was influenced by a diverse range of artists spanning Jazz, Blues, Soul, Gospel, and Traditional Music. After training as a singer, she ventured abroad at 19, performing as a resident artist in prestigious 5-star hotels such as the Intercontinental Hotel, The Hilton, The Royal Mirage, The Hyatt, and Dusit Hotel in Dubai, where she refined her vocal talents. Settling in Australia, Georgina continued to captivate audiences at renowned venues like MONA, the Arts Centre, Crown Palladium, AAMI Park, and Ormond Hall, and regularly showcased her skills with her band at the Paris Cat Jazz Club. Collaborating closely with acclaimed jazz pianist Mina Yu, Georgina also displays a particular interest in singing in foreign languages like Portuguese, French, Italian, Latin, and Spanish....

TIM STOCKER:
Tim spent many years as an international baritone saxophonist, living and playing for lengthy periods in the UK, New York and Singapore, before returning to settle in Australia. Tim's baritone saxophone playing is top notch - including some extended techniques, and more adventurous sounds unique to the saxophone. He is a joy to listen to as he plays and improvises.
