REBECCA:
Rebecca grew up in a legendary Jazz family, with her renowned drummer father, Len, his brother, Trumpeter Bob, and their bands. The great Jazz Standards are in her DNA, and while she has evolved into a versatile and wide-ranging performer, this evening she returns to the Jazz influences of her youth, with all time favourites.
She has featured in many Australian bands: The Escalators (1982-1984), Black Coffee (and the Beans) (1985), Wayback 5 (1986), Romance Without Finance, Peaceful Anticipation Social Aid and Pleasure Club (1990), Stephen Cummings Band (1986 and 1990–91), Triple Peaks (1991), and the Rebecca Barnard Band (1992). When songwriting became a focus, she founded the band 'Rebecca’s Empire', which toured extensively, supported Billy Bragg on his Australian tour, released three EPs and two albums and appeared on the Triple J Hottest 100 albums three years in a row.
Rebecca took time out when her son was young, making guest appearances on other’s albums, before returning to her solo and collaborative performances – to the delight of her fans. Since thenshe has released 2 solo albums Fortified and the acclaimed Everlasting .She previously performed 'Songs My Father Taught Me' with the John Montesante Quintet, and impressed with her extrordinary capacity to recreate the Jazz that was the soundtrack to her youth.
With impeccable Jazz genes, tonight you will experience songs her father, Len Barnard [1929-2005], Australia’s best loved (jazz) drummer, taught her…and more. Doors & Dinner from 6.30pm + Live Jazz 7pm.
