About

Ben Roseth
Ben (alto/soprano saxophone) was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where he began playing the saxophone at the age of 9. There, under the tutelage of his first saxophone instructor, Dan Greenblatt, and his middle and high school band directors, Robert Knatt and Clarence Acox, he was steeped in the jazz tradition, focusing on the music of Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderly, John Coltrane, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. At the age of 18, Roseth moved to Boston to pursue parallel degrees in Jazz Performance, at the New England Conservatory, and International Relations, at Tufts University. During his time at NEC, Roseth collaborated with jazz greats such as Danilo Perez, Dave Holland, Jerry Bergonzi and Omer Avital, as well as rising musical stars such as Julian Lage, Richie Barshay, Omer Klein and many more. Over the course of his time in college, he made threetrips to South America, living in Argentina and Colombia and visiting Panama. On these journeys, he explored each culture's music, and investigated its role in society. These Latin American adventures, combined with intense scholastic and social experiences with Israeli musicians in Boston, helped to form his unique concept of fusion between jazz and folk music from around the world. The CD produced with guitarist Julian Lage,"Sounding Point," was nominated for a Grammy as "Best Jazz Album" in 2009. listen to ben and find more info at www.zincojazz.com...
