Nestor Torres, flute
If a flute could talk and sing, it would certainly be in the voice of Nestor Torres. Born in Puerto Rico and a South Florida resident for most of his life, Nestor Torres pursued flute studies at Mannes School of Music in NYC and later at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. His career includes collaborations with Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan, as well as performances with, among others, The New World Symphony, the Cleveland Symphony and Singapore Symphony Orchestras. He has recorded 14 CDs to date and has earned four Latin Grammy-nominations, one Latin Grammy Award, and a Grammy nomination for his most recent CD, Nouveau Latino.
Equally fluent in jazz, classical and latin music, Nestor Torres’ melodic and rhythmical flute sound sets him apart as one of the most influential flutists of his generation. Mr. Torres is also the recipient of two honorary doctorate degrees for his commitment to youth, education, and cultural exchanges, including one from Barry University in 1994.
