Eddy Balzola and his band ORIENTE! present an exciting mix of Afro-Latin Jazz, Blues, Rhythm-n-Soul. Guitarist, composer and arranger, Eddy was born in Guanabacoa, Cuba, a town known for its Afro-Cuban folklore and culture. He began touring the USA and Europe with a wide variety of bands and, over time he developed his signature sound. ORIENTE! began their first tour in the mid-90’s at famed New Orleans Jazz club “Snug Harbor” where the band’s sizzling, rhythmic yet melodic Afro-Cuban sounds created a buzz among that town's savvy audiences and some of the best musicians in town. ...

ORIENTE! continues to record and perform creative, original music with fresh arrangements and exciting stage presence. Balzola remains ever evolving and creative with instrumentation, space and sound. His lineup for “1st Friday Live at the Lyric” will feature long-time band members multi- percussionist Yoel Del Sol (Cuba), trumpeter Stuart King (Memphis, TN), trombonist William Paredes (Cuba), upright and electric bassist Rusty Hari Heck (Chicago/P.R.), and featuring special guests, Melton Mustafa Jr. on sax, and drummer John Yarling.
*Between Oriente veteran and exceptional band musicians, they've opened for, or performed with – Pharoah Sanders, Paquito D’Rivera, The Isley Bros., Federico Britos, Neville Bros., Celia Cruz, Mongo Santamaria, Nestor Torres, The Chi-Lites, Ray Barreto, Big Chief Monk Boudreau, Arturo Sandoval, Debbie Spring, Jesse Jones, Jr., Melton Mustafa Jr.
The band's musical palette will range from melodic, bluesy, swingin’ and sensitive, to some get-down funky. On the 6th you can expect colorful, organic rhythms and serious soul, all with the freedom of improvisation at any moment. Sit down (or Up) and enjoy!
