The Charlie Christenson Standards Trio is the latest project from the nationally renowned jazz vocalist, composer and arranger. The Standards Trio represents a return to form for Christenson and his trio mates (Matt Edlund, drums and Graydon Peterson, bass), as they unflinchingly strip away the excess and sentimentality so often found in modern jazz music. “We’ve left the piano, the guitar behind,” Christenson says, “but that doesn’t mean we’ve forsaken harmony. Our three unique and singular voices play together in ways that can feel exposed – mostly in a good way.”
