A Prairie Home Companion bassist Gary Raynor moved to the Twin Cities from New York in 1977. He has performed for both the Guthrie Theater and Chanhassen Dinner theaters, was the house Bassist for the Carlton Celebrity Room, and toured for three years as Sammy Davis Jr.’s bassist. Upon his return, he joined the New Ruperts Orchestra, and also performed at the major jazz clubs in the Twin Cities for local and national jazz headliners, including with the Count Basie Band. Gary has toured with Broadway musicals, such as The Lion King, Phantom, Beauty and the Beast, Miss Saigon,etc. In 2000, Gary joined the Guys All-Star Shoe Band, performing weekly on the nationally broadcast “A Prairie Home Companion.'
Gary taught bass for ten years at the University of Minnesota, and at McNally Smith College of Music. His recordings include two Janet Jackson albums “Again” , featuring Gary’s arco work, was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Grammy),recordings and music videos with Danny Maseng, and local artists.
