Ella Fitzgerald was one of the greatest jazz voices the world has ever known. In this tribute to the “First Lady of Song,” Katia Cardenas and friends will salute her with the standards she made into classics, and of course, scatting! Katia was influenced by Ella Fitzgerald at an early age, memorizing her scat solos in middle school, and mimicking her iconic stylings note for note. She has since incorporated these influences into her own unique style, and she is honored to pay tribute to Ella in this evening of swinging jazz.

Katia Cardenas is a professional vocalist in the Twin Cities, recognized for her radiant energy, impeccable range, and dynamic yet powerful voice. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest in a musical family, and was raised on jazz, funk, and r&b. She moved to Sacramento, California in 2000, where she received a Waldorf education, which instilled in her a deep appreciation and passion for music. After graduating, music was just a side note for a few years. But about a year ago, she realized the significant lack of music in her life, and needed to make a change. She has since collaborated with numerous local musicians, exploring different musical styles, including jazz, latin, R&B, and pop. She has performed at numerous local venues, including Hell’s Kitchen, Jazz Central, Honey, Bedlam Lowertown, and St. Paul Saints Games at Midway Stadium. Katia is passionate about creating community around the arts and has engaged with numerous local artist networks including Face Forward: Humanity through Art, Twin Cities Cabaret Artists Network (TCCAN), and Jazz Central Studios.
